From MCAD Manila: "We’ve finally launched The Vexed Contemporary Catalogue! This publication accompanies our 2015 exhibition, The Vexed Contemporary which showcased the works of 16 Filipino artists, making it the museum’s largest local exhibition to date. The exhibition came at a time when the presence of the professional careers of Filipino artists within the global scene was acknowledged locally, within an art scene that believed itself to be almost autonomous.

The Vexed Contemporary brought together a generation of artists who moved fluidly across media and categories: video, photography, installations, sculptures, sound work, painting, participative and performance-based practices which were beginning to get accepted. The works of artists Pio Abad, Kawayan de Guia, Cocoy Lumbao, Victor Balanon, Patricia Perez Eustaquio, The Weather Bureau, Ikoy Ricio, Yason Banal, Leslie de Chavez, Louie Cordero, Gina Osterloh, Gary-Ross Pastrana, Maria Taniguchi, Lena Cobangbang, Kiri Dalena and Poklong Anading were brought together for a discursive conversation on the currency of the present.

The catalogue contains essays from exhibition curator and MCAD Director, Joselina Cruz, writers Patrick Flores and Mara Coson and a reprint of Marian Pastor Roces’ Hidalgo and Luna: Vexed Modernity.

The catalogue is proudly sponsored by National Book Store. Limited copies available, grab one from Art Bar BGC and selected National Book Store branches."
